Moderation is a word I’m desperately trying to learn this year. I didn’t grow up in a home that favored moderation. Sodas were readily available, Little Debbie snacks were always in a bowl, and Nana always had a cup filled with gummy fruit slices. Good Lord, what I wouldn’t kill for some of those right now.
This year I will moderate food, drink, and my time spent on certain activities. I’ve already jumped back on the horse to try and be healthy and figure out what intake of food is best for me and my body. I’ve also successfully consumed 64+oz of water EVERY DAY. I haven’t had a soda in two weeks and I don’t want one or another four. After that, I’ll try one and see what I think.
I’m also going to try and cut down on social media time. I wake up each morning and browse Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit to see what I’ve missed during the night. It keeps me connected with writers, friends, and the news (also cute animal gifs, but what the hell). But I’ve come to realize that it makes me focus on negative things because negative news sells– especially on social media.
So I’m stepping away. Those five minutes that I browse social media, I’ll read a book or do some stretching.
Sundays will also be off-limits for social-media. I’m proclaiming it as a day to spend with time with my husband or the people most important in my life. The world can wait until Monday– it always has and it always will.
Find things in your life that you need to moderate. What should you cut back on?
